As makers, one of the things we love most about what we do is that we get to try new trends and fun jewelry ideas. Our bike jewelry is crafted from up-cycled bike chain, tubes, sterling silver and semi-precious stone beads, making it more affordable and guilt-free.
While we use quality materials that go through a rigorous cleaning process, unfortunately, all fashion jewelry is capable of tarnishing. To help keep it looking its best, your up-cycled bike chain jewelry needs a little love! By following some of the tips below, you can help keep it looking bright, shiny and like new!
Keep It Dry – The fastest way to tarnish your jewelry is repeated contact with moisture and liquids. This includes putting on lotions, washing your hands, a spritz of perfume, and sweating with your jewelry on. Even the oils on your skin can cause tarnishing over time. Be sure to wipe and dry them off right away!
Keep It Protected – The process of cleaning and preparing the up-cycled bike chain leaves each piece with a thin coat of protection, helping to repel tarnish and moisture. Eventually, that coating can wear off from exposure to water, sweat and skin oils. You can help to replace the layer of protection by wiping them with a bit of your favorite oil – olive, coconut, mineral, etc. Just apply a small amount to a soft rag, wipe on the jewelry, then buff off. Doing this occasionally will help to repel moisture and preserve the finish!
